many of us have devoted a lot of time and energy to the jw's at the expense of other things like education , planing for retirement , family time just to name a few.. i don't consider it all wasted time there was a lot of good i learnt however i'm doing things now as a jw i never would have.. i don't have the same time pressure and never fell guilty about taking a lot of time out for myself as one elder said to me"if we don't keep you brothers real busy in the work of the kingdom you get swallowed up by the world" .
karter.

there were gasps after watching this.
i heard the anti college talks at the dc this year, and while many people i know didnt agree with them, this following video stunned many of them.
there are many people on this forum, many have gotten to where they are many different ways.
How disgusting and maddening is this video!?! This guy is a looser!! And listen to all the clapping. Do people not get it? Do any of those people in attendance sit there and think how wrong this is? My hope is that there are some. These poor brothers who have to clean and wash windows for a living must just love what he is advocating. I guess that might be one of the only times that they feel good about what they are doing, validation. He and his "cushy" position where he doesn't have to worry about expenses, how would he know the struggles?? Like he is in a position to tell these poor people about not getting an education.
And by the way, love his example about the guy who tried to commit suicide and just HAPPENED TO HIT THE PART OF HIS BRAIN THAT AFFECTED HIS DISORDER??? Ya right! These loosers will believe anything. And, then he likened that experience to going to college? Sick, really sick.
I'm finished with my rant, b/c I could go on and on...

i'm a baptized member considered ''inactive.
'' i don't hand in ''service reports'',attend maybe 3 meetings a month, ain't signed up for the ministry school and will never attend any convention or the ''book study.
'' always make the ''memorial.
I guess I am considered in-active, but am shunned by 95% of the dubs.
I hear the elders want to talk to me so that I can either repent and be a member of the cong. again or they will disfellowship me. I told the person that told me this to pound sand. Not sure if that got back to them or not. However, it will be just a matter of time before it is made known (by me) that I am an apostate so then I think I will be DF'd.

we have not been in the org for over 10 years now but still see the old jw's around and about.
one particular couple we used to be fairly friendly with we bumped into the other night as they are doing a course at the college my hubby lectures at.
they were never the strongest of couples but have kept going cos of their family i suppose.
Well I certainly wouldn't bring it up, wait for them to...make sure they see how happy & carefree you are as we all know how being a JW can be a huge burden. Maybe your actions alone will make them question their own beliefs. Sometimes what you don't say speaks volumes if you know what I mean.
Best of luck to you!

the wts has sent a letter to all convention overseers expressing their increasing concern at sisters "directing brothers" at district conventions.. with immediate effect (ie for dc 2008), sisters are no longer to be used as volunteers in parking and security / watchman departments.
any sisters volunteering in other departments (eg toilet cleaning) must be subordinate & follow the direction of appointed brothers.
this move will put a huge burden on the dcs in my area - nearly half the volunteers for parking are sisters and there aren't enough volunteers as it is.
Don't they have something better to do?! Like figure out how they are going to pay off all these child molestation charges (oh we know how, brother and sisters, contribute to Jeh's "loving" organization) or try to stop so many people from leaving the borg?? They are stuck in the 1940's when women didn't have very many rights.
This is so completely and utterly ridiculous!!

every time we enter a new year, i think about how i wasn't supposed to make it this long.
i really believed we wouldn't live past the year 2000, and armageddon would change everything.
it almost strikes me as living on borrowed time, but then i remember that armageddon is a story, not a reality.
Yes, I remember my Dad telling me not to worry too much about my grades b/c the new system would be here before I even gratuated from high school. I was going to drop out of high school and pioneer til the end came. OMG how silly does this sound now?? Anyways, I didn't drop out and I graduated from high school 15 years ago. Still not here...

tired of the hypocrisy's post got me thinking ... how many jw "kids" over the age when they should have left home still live with their parents.
i say this because i have many of those in my congregation.
fyi it looks real bad to be a older man (ie 25 and up) scrub laying up at home unless you have a outstanding circumstance i.e.
Yeah my brother lived at home until my mom re-married and told him to go find his own place and he was like 24. No cultural reason or financial either...just wanted to free-load off her.

hey there.
i'm new to the forums and just had to say hi, and thank you to all of you who've shared your stories which have let me know finally and for sure that i'm not crazy and nowhere near as abnormal as i've been feeling...well, forever, really, but more so over these last few years!!!
i can't tell you what a good feeling that is, but i suspect you already know.
So nice that you have joined the forum, welcome! You will really enjoy your stay here.
While starting your life over again is not the easiest thing you can do, most of us here have had to do just that. Trust me, it's NOT as diffucult as the JW's will have you believe. The "world" isn't such a bad place after all! I have made some truly wonderful friends since I left the org. These are much better friends than I ever had in the religeon. They love you for you, not b/c you are in the org, therefore that is what binds you. I made friends at work, school and thru the friends I have met. Put yourself out there, join clubs, take a class of some sort, show an interest to people you work with.
I wish you all the best, although you don't need it. You have already done the hardest part!

a previous post regarding herbal meds brings to mind two people, of course they're dubs, that swindled those in "da troof".
back in the day, when my mother was first brainwashed and attended the edgecombe cong in harlem there were two teenagers, shirley and gladstone widdick, whose father was a jw but there mother was not (smart woman) they even relocated to queens around the same time we did in the early 1960's.
many, many decades later, there seems to be some kind of buzz within the congregation that iridiologist (sp), i'll just call him the guy that looks in your eye and can diagnose every problem you've had since birth, is going to be in his hometown in new york and that he was "hangin' up the shingle" while he was here, needless to say this self-proclaimed dr/quack was dr. gladstone widdick and his book of appointments i'm sure was longer than the dr. that performed bill clinton's open heart surgery.. i believe he was/is located in the north carolina area, are somewhere in around there, any of you every had your eyes gazed into by this dr/quack ??.
OMG, great post!
This just reminded me...when I was back in the religeon, I was taking spanish lessons from a brother who had served many years special pioneering in different spanish speaking destinations. He claimed to be a self-taught doctor as well!! He said he had gotten his training from a brother in some other country (one of the destinations he had pioneered in), and this brother taught him everything he knew - therefore, he was a Dr. He even said I could call him Dr. Lee. What a friggin joke!! He said it was a secret, and he didn't want very many people to know b/c he didn't want to detract from his pioneer work, etc. Basically, he didn't want to be found out and called a liar! He was a regular pioneer, an elder, and an ex-bethelite. He eventually had his privledges taken away and was demoted as an elder b/c of some other trouble he had gotten himself into. Things like being engaged to someone but not telling anyone and pursuing other sisters and taking advantage of his rank.
I could go on and on about him but anyways, isn't that funny about him calling himself a doctor. Sick.
